Nxai Pan lies north of the main Maun to Nata road. Historically this was quite an important waterhole on the game migrations around Northern Botswana, but the introduction of cattle fences has seriously impeded these migrations and the game here at Nxai is more resident than migratory.
Another major problem is that the waterhole is generally dry these days. In its place the government pumps water at one location, which means that when the pump is running all the animals and vehicles are at the one spot.
This busy, artificial environment is not the kind of safari experience that we enjoy and we therefore tend to avoid including Nxai in our trips.
