Tucked in between Chobe and Okavango, Mababe is at first sight a quite peripheral area, but actually there are significant reasons to include this in a trip.
During the wet season November to April the plains to the east of here become home to the vast numbers of animals migrating out of Okavango. May and June are probably the weakest months out here, as the dry season starts and the game moves west towards the advancing floodwaters. In a high flood season July to October the game-viewing should return to decent levels.
The area includes two of the best value small lodges in the country,
Mankwe and
Mogotlho, both of which are well worth considering in a mid-price safari.
