The Il Ngwesi Valley is the area that lies between the fenced reserves of
Lewa Downs and
Borana Hills to the south and the Samburu game reserve to the north.
This is an extremely beautiful tract of wild land, where Maasai tribespeople and their livestock live side by side with good concentrations of game, most notably elephant and giraffe.
We like to use this area for an overland connection between
Lewa Downs and
Samburu, largely on foot in the company of camels, using overnight bivouac camps either side of the fabulous
Tassia Lodge.
The area might not look like much on the map, but it often turns out to be an outstanding highlight in a safari.
