The three small reserves of Samburu, Buffalo Springs and Shaba are often grouped together as a single entity, but in reality this place is a world apart.
Located on the opposite side of the Great North Road, Shaba gets only a fraction of the safari traffic. Admitedly the game is often thinner this side, but the main eastern valley is an absolute Eden where real safari enthusiasts will appreciate the quality rather than quantity of sightings.
Walking and hiking is also permitted and there are some excellent routes, especially along the river.
The very high quality Joy's Camp is on the remote eastern boundary.
