The Mathew's Range is a chain of mountains which runs from the Samburu area in the south up into the real wild lands to the north.
Peaking at over 2500m the higher altitudes benefit from a considerably milder and better watered climate than the surrounding savannah, with slopes and valleys clad in thick forest.
This little visited area has a wonderfully remote feeling. Time is spent with walks in the forest, taking in the flora and fauna, stalking elephant on foot and interacting with the local Samburu tribespeople.
The two main lodges in the area
Sarara Camp offers top quality luxury safari, whilst the truly exceptional
Kitich Camp offers a much more earthy and outdoorsy experience.
