Nairobi, or 'Nairobbery' as it is known amongst the travelling community, is the largest city in East Africa.

It is a pretty hectic place these days, remnants of a more genteel past being now well concealed behind the realities of sprawling modern capital.

Most safari visitors try to get through Nairobi as fast as possible, in which case a hotel in the Central district is adequate for a quick overnight.

On the other hand, those wishing to take their time and take in some of the capital's genuinely interesting attractions may be better off basing themselves in the quieter suburb of Karen.
