There are few more better known landscapes in the world than Amboseli ... the image of elephant and giraffe crossing vast open plains against a backdrop of the snows of Kilimanjaro is one familiar to us all.
Unfortunately this fame makes Amboseli something of a honeypot for visitors and central areas of the park do suffer hugely from floods of tourists in minvans.
But the backdrop and especially the elephant viewing here are exceptional, so it may be worth seeking out smarter ways to visit.
Three top quality lodges ... Tortilis, Ol Kanjau and Porini ... attempt to solve the problem by being located remotely and raiding the park to provide a higher quality bush experience.
