Tsavo East lies to the north of the main Nairobi to Mombasa road.
This eastern section of Tsavo is generally considered to be rather less scenic, being largely drier, with rolling plains butting up against the Yatta Escarpment. Most of the action takes place along the Galana River, which offers some quite scenic patches of riverine forest.
The problem with Tsavo derives from its proximity to the mass market tourism of the coast. This is classic 'bush and beach' territory with fleets of minvans shunting packaged tourists around some of the largest and least attractive lodges in East Africa.
Galdessa and
Kilalinda camps however may be worthy of consideration.
