Baringo is the most northerly of the four main Rift Valley lakes in this region. It is a beautiful stretch of unusually fresh water, encircled by mountains, dotted with islands and inhabited by hippo, croc and tilapia.
The real joy of Baringo is how little of the tourist traffic from Naivasha and Nakuru makes it up this far. Time spent boating and walking around the lake is heavenly, whilst the hot springs and flamingoes of Lake Bogoria are only a short drive away.
Campi ya Samaki is a very low key little village on the lakeshore. Of the three landward lodges
Roberts Camp is the one that we tend to recommend for lower cost trips. But to get the full Baringo experience there are two lodges located out on the islands, the best of which is undoubtedly
Samatian.
