Kakamega Forest

Kakamega is the last remaining area in Kenya of the indigenous equatorial forest that once swathed much of this part of Africa.

It is a great place to explore, the atmospheric forest containing an amazing array of birdlife in particular, plus seven different primate species including the exceedingly rare De Brazza's monkey.

Kakamega is relatively little visited, being rather remote from the country's main attractions, although it is on the main route to Uganda so provides an interesting option for overlanders.

We beleive the most interesting accommodation to be the rather quirky Rondo Retreat, but to be honest, we have not yet managed to get out there to take a look.
