Keekorok is an area of the central Mara reserve, consisting largely of broad open grasslands, backed by hills to the east and running southwards towards the Sand River and the border with Tanzania.
With only one lodge listed one might be forgiven for assuming that this is a nice quiet area, but the reality is quite different.
Keekorok Lodge is one of the central hubs for minibus safaris in Kenya and the traffic emanating from here alone can be very high. Added to this are all the raiders coming in from the big lodges in the Sekenani and Talek areas to the north and east.
All in all we have to consider this is an area to avoid, although occasionally it is necessary to use the Keekorok airstrip to access one of the higher quality camps in adjacent areas.
