Mara Northeast

Lying to the northeast of the Mara reserve, Olarro is a tract of mountainous terrain, backed up against the eastern escarpment and with some very pretty areas of open grassland and leleshwa scrub.

The advantage of this area is its remoteness, the only safari traffic generally emanating from the two small lodges. The disadvantages are that the game here can be quite thin, that there is significant incursion from Maasai herders and their domestic animals and that it is a long way to drive to get into the park.

It might seem like a whole lot of negative, but actually if visited in combination with other Mara areas such as Olare Orok, Governors or Confluence, the camps here can serve as very pleasant backwaters.
