This area to the northwest of the Mara reserve offers without doubt the highest quality, lowest traffic safari experience in the region.
At its heart is the pioneering Olare Orok Conservancy, a partnership with local Maasai landowners, who have moved their homes and cattle out to leave the wildlife completely unimpeded. The removal of the cattle means that the grazing here is far superior to the surrounding lands, often attracting much higher game concentrations.
The best camps are those which are inside the conservancy itself and have exclusive use of this stunning area, namely
Olare Lion,
Olare Kicheche and
Film Safaris camps, whilst
Offbeat Mara and
Elephant Pepper are good quality camps operating around the northern fringes.
