Mara Talek

The Talek river is a significant tributary of the Mara, whose course forms the middle section of the reserve's northern border.

The bridge here is the second most used entry point into the Mara and is flanked by a rash of seemingly uncontrolled urban and camp development, which spills heavy levels of traffic into the game areas.

We generally consider this an area to avoid and are trying to encourage the higher quality Ilkeliani Camp, Kensington Mara Camp and Basecamp Mara, to move north and expand the network of private conservancies.

In the meantime the only reasons to stay here might be a lack of availability in decent areas in high season or for the sake of a cut price deal.
