For many years overlanders and backpackers have known that this south lake area is a cool place to hang out on the beach.

In recent years some of these hairy-hippy camps have matured into cool beach lodges, still keeping that same kayak and hammock feeling, but with improved levels of build and service. The best of these is the wonderfully laid back Mumbo Island.

More conventional in style, at the top end is the superb Pumulani Lodge, whilst Danforth Lodge offers a high standard of accommodation at a very reasonable price.
