The central lakeshore of Lake Malawi is a area renowned for its long beautiful beaches, occasional small coves and crystal clear waters. There are remnant patches of lowland tropical forest and the Viphya Mountains act as a dramatic backdrop.
The Chinteche area lies to the north of this section of the coast and feels pleasantly remote.
The main road up this side of the lake serves as an overland route between Malawi and Tanzania. There are therefore several backpacker stops along the shoreline to cater for this traffic, but only one really decent quality lodge,
Chinteche Inn.
