This northern province of Mozambique contains some of the wildest and most beautiful coastline in the Indian Ocean.
Getting here is a bit of a mission. Twice weekly flights from Johannesburg are now reasonably reliable, but connections to Dar es Salaam in the north remain very difficult or expensive.
So far as private island paradises are concerned, the very best is
Vamizi Island.
Half the cost but still pricey is the very pleasant
Quilalea Island.
For a lower cost option then try
Guludo Lodge on the mainland coast, in combination with nearby
Ibo Island Lodge.
