This strangely shaped appendage to Namibia has its origins in the 'scramble for Africa'. Essentially it was traded for Zanzibar by the British, with German West Africa thereby making contact with lucrative trade routes on the Zambezi.
The strip is mainly visited by people on overland safaris between
Windhoek and
Livingstone.
We tend not to use this route as we find it rather dull. we generally prefer instead to fly from
Windhoek to
Maun and then make our way up through the higher quality safari areas of
Okavango and
Linyanti on the way to
Livingstone.
