Grootfontein is located at the northeast corner of the little triangle of upland to the east of Etosha.
It is a pleasant enough little town amidst reasonably fertile farmland, although of little immediate interest to the visitor.
The main reason one might consider overnighting here is in order to set out on the long road traverses northeast to the
Caprivi Strip or east to
Tsumkwe before the heat of the day kicks in.
But since accommodation options are so weak here, we tend to start these journeys from a little further afield, at lodges in either
East Etosha or
Okonjima.
