The remote northwest is undoubtedly the wildest and most spectacular part of the country.

The two most fabulous areas are Skeleton Coast North and Serra Cafema, both of which only have very high-end camps which can only be accessed by air and are extremely pricey.

The third fantastic area is Palmwag, one of the best locations for quality game-viewing safari, which can be integrated into a self-drive trip at a slightly less painful price level.

It is just about possible to self-drive through this area on the main road via Palmwag, Sesfontein and Epupa, but this barely scratches the surface and is really not to be recommended.
