North of the Huab river we enter a truly wild and very scenic landscape of red granite uplands which hosts an usually rich range of game, most notably black rhino, but also including elephant, giraffe, zebra, kudu, lion and cheetah.

This area is divided up into large private concessions, so driving through on the main road is no good, you have to stay in the lodges inside the concessions to see the place properly.

Best of these is the superb Palmwag concession. Palmwag Lodge itself is a pretty ordinary roadside affair, but deep inside the concession, Rhino Camp and Hoanib Camp are both superb.
