Fort Sesfontein is the gateway to the extremely remote northwest corner of Namibia.
The lodge is a sensitive and elegant reconstruction of an old German frontier fort. It serves as the farthest sensible point north for self-drivers, offering guided day-trips further out into the wild areas to visit Himba villages and search for desert elephant.
Fort Sesfontein is hairy and unreliable, but it is brim full of character. For guests willing to put up with its shortcomings, then a couple of nights here certainly adds a wilder dimension to a self-drive trip.
