North Namib

North Namib is of considerably less interest to most vistors than the adjoining areas of Sossusvlei and Namibrand.

The most interesting feature is the Kuiseb Canyon, made famous in the book The Sheltering Desert in which two German geologists holed up here for most of the second world war. But the canyon has no facilities for guests.

The Naukluft Mountains which protrude to the east of the main Namib park contains some reasonably good hiking trails, but again is quite peripheral.

We tend to only use the lodges here as transit stops on the road north, Rostok Ritz being the best of a pretty ragged selection.
