The section of coast that stretches north from Swakopmund for around 150km is known as the National West Coast Recreation Area, which essentially means that environmental controls have been lifted in order to provide Namibians with somewhere to build holiday cottages, go fishing and have fun in their off-road vehicles.
The main point of interest is the seal colony at Cape Cross. For those visitors not able to get to the superb but pricey
Skeleton Coast North, this is the only place to encounter seals in significant numbers.
The only lodge of any interest is
Cape Cross Lodge, close by to the seal colony itself.
