The Erongo Mountains lie to the east of the C33 road between Karibib and Omaruru in the centre of this western region of Namibia.
Most of this area is relatively flat farm and ranch land, but the skyline is punctuated by dome-topped granite outcrops, the largest collection of which forms the Erongo Mountains.
Self-drive trips passing between
Sossusvlei in the south and
Twyfelfontein in the north can choose to avoid the coastal towns of
Swakopmund and
Walvis Bay by taking the alternative inland route through here.
Erongo Wilderness Lodge is the obvious stopping place, a really lovely lodge whose scenic setting make it much more than just a stopover.
