Walvis Bay

Walvis Bay is an industrial port just to the south of Swakopmund in west Namibia.

This really is a rather ugly place. The older part of town on the waterfront is a functional wharf type place, whilst the surrounding areas of modern development come right out of the plastic palace school of architecture.

The primary reason to visit is the amount of marine and bird life attracted to the lagoon here, although since there is no recommended accommodation in the area, these are probably better done from a base in Swakopmund, 30km to the north.
