Virunga Lodge is located about an hour from the Parc National de Volcans in the north of Rwanda, the prime location in Africa for tracking mountain gorillas.
The position on a hilltop between two lakes is superb and provides the opportunity for some wonderful walking amongst the farms and villages of this very beautiful part of the world, in addition to the gorilla trekking.
Until recently Virunga Lodge was the only decent place to stay in the area, but we have always considered it to be a little too remote and overpriced. These days there are alternatives which we tend to recommend more often.
