Remire Island lies to the north of the Amirantes Group, 200km WSW of Mahe.
This small circular island is just large enough to be bisected by a short runway cut through the palm and casuarina trees.
Remire is also known as Eagle Island after a British corvette which pillaged and burned Curieuse in 1771.
Over the centuries the heavy guano deposits have phosphated the beaches and turned them into sandstone, making this a relatively unattractive place by Seychelles standards.
The island is however renowed for its fishing and a few modern bungalows serve as basic accommodation for the handful of keen anglers that manage to get out this far.
