Mahe Group

Flying into Mahe feels like landing on a speck of dust in the middle of a vast ocean. Actually at 152 square kilometres it makes up over half of the total land mass of the Seychelles and is home to 90% of the population.

The majority of the island is mountainous and verdant, with palm plantations running down to the usual white sand beaches.

Although there are some very good all inclusive hotels, Mahe also has some excellent low cost guesthouses. It is a great place to explore in a self-drive vehicle ... as well as excellent beaches, there are hiking trails through, the capital Victoria and a fair scattering of restaurants worth seeking out.

The best lodges on Mahe are to be found in the five areas listed left.
