Northwest

This northwest corner is a relatively little visited part of the country, consisting largely of broad empty and arid semi-desert landscapes.

The undoubted highlight is the Kgalagadi South reserve, an overwhelmingly wild and wonderful reserve, perfect for tough independent self-drivers. A much more exclusive Kalahari safari experience can be found in the Kuruman and Tswalu area.

Augrabies Falls is a spectacle not to be missed on the way through, wildflower displays in Namaqualand North are worth seeking out in August and September, whilst the diamond coast, desert scenery and white water rafting on the Orange river in the Richtersveld are also quite extraordinary.
