Usually we go out of our way to find interesting and unusual places to stay, but here in Dar we have given up. This is an overnight stop to connect to a late arriving or early departing flight, so all you really need is a good, reliable town hotel, which is exactly what we have here.

Located a couple of blocks back from the waterfront, in a quiet area of town, the Southern Sun (previously the Holiday Inn) is really very pleasant. As a first night it is a very easy start in Africa. As a last night it eases you gently back into the real world ... and after a long hard safari under canvas you may find yourselves kissing the walls.
