Historically the north of Stonetown used to be a much more rural place, home to a string of sultan's palaces and houses.
These days Stonetown has sprawled northwards, consuming villages such as Bububu and giving the area an increasingly busy urban feel.
Lodges in the area are therefore rather compromised in their offering, being neither in town or out on remote beaches.
If only the beautiful islands of
Chapwani,
Bawe and
Changuu could be towed off to the east coast.
If only the wonderful
Salome's Garden were still surrounded by quiet plantations.
