Bawe Island is located 5km offshore from Stonetown, the capital of Zanzibar Island in Tanzania.
This is a really beautiful little island, with fine sandy beaches and a pleasant forested hinterland. The downside is the location, which is far too close to town and the busy shipping lanes to feel like a proper desert island.
The new lodge development here has 15 rooms and is claimed to be five star.
We have not yet visited the place, but given our misgivings with the location we are not terribly optimistic about ever wanting to recommend this to our guests.
