This lodge is one of the finest demonstrations of eco-tourism in Africa. It is a wonderfully creative lodge, aimed at a an environmentally conscious guest, outdoorsy enough to enjoy the simple build and relaxed hosting.
The island is a marine park, with some superb snorkelling, although diving is not permitted.
If only Chumbe were little more remote and if only there was a decent beach, then this place would find itself with a much higher rating. We tend to use Chumbe just for a couple of nights in combination with an east coast lodge such as those at Matemwe and possibly also with Chole Mjini on Mafia Island.
