Mbweni Ruins is a hybrid between a beach lodge or a town hotel, located in a garden suburb a short distance south of Stonetown.
This is a very pleasant and well turned out facility, a little bit conventional in overall concept maybe, but nicely dressed in Zanzibari style.
It may be that for guests spending only a couple of nights on Zanzibar, Mbweni offers the decent compromise between town and beach, but most people will surely find a combination of a beach lodge in a remote location such as Matemwe and a central Stonetown hotel to be a rather more diverse and satisfying experience.
