Part of the old nationalised chain of 'safari lodges', Lake Manyara Hotel is essentially a 1960's Los Angeles style motel, complete with parquet floor, cardboard walls and giant chess.
Perhaps someone with a perculiar affection for the immediate post-colonial era might want to stay here as some kind of retro-experience, but the main reason is price ... even we are sometimes tempted to use this lodge March to May when prices fall to rock bottom.
