Serengeti Southcentral

This shortgrass plains area at the foot of the Ngorongoro Highlands is arguably the most magical part of a safari into this region.

The migration usually comes through here during the early green season Dec/Mar, calving as they do so, making this the real epicentre for safari at this time. During the dry season Jun/Dec, the area takes on a more etherial desert beauty, enhanced by the presence of the Maasai and their herds.

As if this were not enough, the area is also one of the most important paleontological sites in Africa, based around the excavations at Olduvai Gorge.

Olduvai Camp is the only lodge in the area and a real favourite.
