Arusha National Park lies about 15km to the north east of Arusha town. It includes much of Mount Meru and a modest area to the east of the mountain.
Whilst the park is not very remote, the landscape is interesting, there is some decent gentle game-viewing and, if you are lucky, views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Although we like the place, for most people it is a park too many and even a day trip up here from Arusha is too much of a distraction from the main parks of Northern Tanzania.
As well as gentle safari, there is also a two night trekking route to the top of Mount Meru itself, which is sometimes used for altitude acclimatisation before an attempt on the larger volcano next door.
