Shira W approaches the mountain for the first few nights along the regular trail, but instead of heading around the southern slopes and hitting the summit from Barafu Camp, this variant heads directly up to the summit via the Western Breach.
The route is dangerous because of exposure on the Western Breach and the inability to turn back due to the support team having departed around the mountain to meet the summit group on the other side. Only a couple of high quality operators offer this route and even they experience a significant death rate.
