Umbwe is a little used route on southwest Kilimanjaro.
The version of this route which ascends directly up Arrow Glacier to the Western Breach is too short, too steep and too technical to be considered safe for most people. Some cowboy operators offer this as a low traffic version of Machame without making the dangers clear.
The version which ascends to join the Machame trail around the Southern Icefields is more workable, but suffers from the same high traffic issues.
We do not operate climbs on this route.
