Mkomazi National Park is essentially a broad, flat savannah that stretches from the Usumbara and Pare mountains north to the Kenyan border, where it meets Tsavo West.
Compared with the parks of
Northern Tanzania, Mkomazi is less scenic and has much thinner game-viewing. In consequence it also has much lower visitor numbers.
Of greatest interest are the black rhino and wild dog reintroduction programmes, which we hear are meeting with some considerable success.
We find ourselves including Mkomazi in trips extremely rarely, although this could change if game densities continue to increase and some decent lodges spring up.
