Kafue is a huge and under-utilised park in western Zambia, which is only now properly opening up. Although largely flat, the park has a interesting range of rivers, forests and plains, with some decent game populations.

At the moment the Kafue is a lower priority for most people than South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi, but that alone might be sufficient reason to break from the pack and head out to this relatively little visited area.

The usual way to visit is to fly from Lusaka into Lunga River Camp, which is a good base for motorboat, fishing, day and night vehicle safari. This should be combined with one of the camps out on the northern plains such as Busanga, Kapinga or Shumba, making a total duration of 4 to 7 nights.
