Upstream from the Victoria Falls the Zambezi is a broad, languid river bordered by stands of riverine woodland. There are national park areas on both banks and a fair amount of game around, especially elephant, hippo and a wide range of bird life. Some of the lodges here feel more like safari camps than town hotels.
Of the high end lodges here
River Club is more traditional,
Toka Leya more chic,
Tongabezi Lodge more funky and
Sindabezi Island more wild and natural. The lovely
Tangala House is great for groups.
Of the lower cost options we tend to favour
Chundukwa Lodge and
Waterberry Lodge, with
Natural Mystic Lodge coming in as a reasonable third choice.
