Hwange is an enormous 15,000 square kilometre national park in northwest Zimbabwe.
Once part of the greater Zambezi valley migration routes, Hwange was cut off from the better watered land to the north by heavy human settlement during colonial times. From the 1920's onwards game here has been sustained through the dry season by a network of around 60 pumped waterholes, turning it into a rather artificial but highly productive safari area.
There are lots of lodges in the area, but the two that we tend to concentrate on,
Makalolo Plains Camp and
Little Makalolo Camp, are contained within their own private concession and can therefore offer a very high quality safari experience.
