Victoria Falls is the town on the southern Zimbabwean side of this famous landmark.
Historically this side of the river has always been the more commercial, with some very large and commercial lodges. Despite the generally rather touristic atmosphere however, the town has always managed to retain a smattering of old world charm and the area around the falls themselves has remained pleasant. In more recent times the political situation in Zimbabwe has seriously undermined tourism and although Victoria Falls itself remains relatively little impacted, most informed visitors now choose to stay in and around
Livingstone on the Zambian side.
Many of those who still choose visit the southern side do so in order to experience the faded elegance of the
Victoria Falls Hotel.
