An Idyllic Retreat
I went to Kichanga Lodge with my friend looking for a relaxing, quiet, uncommercialised girls retreat. Our expectations were excelled with Kichanga Lodge. The detached stilted lodges with wooden four poster beds complete with mosquito nets, large bathroom, walk in wardrobe had an authentic african feel and were clean and surprisingly mosquito free. The verandah with hammock was wonderful on an evening for sitting and admiring the ocean view - and what a view - a beautiful, quiet white sand beach. Because Kichanga is about a mile from the next hotel, the beach is yours, but beware of sea urchins and take footwear in which to swim.

The club house has so many quirky features such as the mezzanine level, the wooden furniture and library and is great for a relaxing drink after dinner.

Trips are available at the hotel and the owners Nigel and Andrea are very welcoming as were all the staff. We felt perfectly safe with the Masai guards patrolling 24 hrs, only adding to the feel of being somewhere completely different to home.

Kichanga Lodge is a wonderful place to stay for a relaxing retreat in beautiful natural surroundings.

Kichanga Lodge, Zanzibar
I stayed at Kichanga Lodge with a friend, seeking a perfect place for relaxation and reflection. On arrival, we were made welcome.

Our lodge boasted breathtaking views of the white sands and crystal clear seas. The large veranda had a wonderful hammock, perfect for lazing on an evening. The large shower was wonderful as was the walk in dressing room. The bedroom was adorned with flowers on arrival - very pretty.

Breakfast was simple and dinner was good with lovely bbq octopus and chicken and a great variety of potatoes, salads and fruits.

Drinks were a little expensive (wine $16 per bottle) with a limited choice. We did miss snacks (crisps/pretzels) and ice-creams although complimentary teas and cakes were served on the beach each afternoon.

The main lodge boasted the most amazing mezzanine level overlooking the ocean where we enjoyed relaxing drinks lounging on fantastic bed sized chairs and sofas! Overall a totally relaxing, quiet, stunning location. Certainly one for the romantics. Loved it.

Further to our e-mail,we felt Kichanga Lodge was a wonderful resort that shot itself in the foot with some "penny pinching "tactics such as $6 for a beer! Keeping things in perspective, the place was delightful!

Dear Vic, it was a pleasure to have you and we are pleased that you found our place delightful! However, our beer cost $4 and not $6. Our coctails start from $6. All the best
