lemala camp
We loved the peace and tranquility of this camp - we were also the only guests there which was nice ! the tents are very close to the edge of the grater and hidden among lovely acacia trees. The staff were great and went out of there way to make us welcome .The tents very comfortable and the food is great . We enjoyed the warmth of the camp fire as it was rather cold at night -hot water-bottles and portable gas heater in tent very welcome! Take some warm clothing if staying up on the crater rim! The trips into the crater with our fantastic driver - Modi were unforgettable (and we also found it relatively free of other touriS ts at this time of year and with an early start you can get into the crater before ). The camp is near enough to go back up for lunch and down into the crater easily before the crowds starti). If you have a day there . and also managed another half day trip on the way to Oldevai. Although this camp is more expensive because of it's isolated setting it had a real feel of 'proper camping' and we would definately recommend this compared to the more 'touristy lodges' . Many hanks to Moses and all his staff for treating us so well and keeping us warm! And also thanks to the twoMassai escorting us round the camp.

We stayed here one night before visiting the crater. Location is perfect to have an early and relaxed start in the crater. Service and food was outstanding. The tents are very nice, with a bit army look to them. It's really cold up there, bring a warm sweater and hat, some people even brought mittens. They'll keep you warm with heater, warm water bottle and campfire.

The camp is well laid out , maintained and run the key point about this camp however is its location . By being within the park on the crater rim you can , as we did , be down on the crater floor as dawn breaks , to see the animals come out to feed .
The camp fire , around which you take predinner drinks , takes on particullar significance , as temperatures rapidly drop as night descends . The theme continues as each tent has a gas fire , and hot wateer bottles are provided .

Lemala Camp
We spent that night at Lemala Ngorongoro Luxury Camp. It sits inside the rim of the crater in a beautiful forest clearing. The tents were comfortable and attractive. Service was good. Food was good, too. We opted for the afternoon guided hike, which was nice and gave us some good views of the surrounding Maasai villages just over the crater rim. It’s not a difficult walk and there is not much wildlife to see, but it was a pleasure to stretch our legs and see the beautiful highland forest. We really enjoyed our first sundowners by the fire pit. Dinner was good, the other travelers in the camp were friendly and it was fun having our Maasai guard/lookout outside the tents all night. Keep in mind it’s chilly up there at over 7,000 feet, pack accordingly (although the hot water bottles in the beds at turndown help a lot).

The next day we spent in the crater. It is a must see in TZ, we enjoyed it I don’t have anything to add to all the other comments about it.
