Mbuzi Mawe - not to be missed!
My husband and I and my parents were on safari in northern Tanzania for 10 days in March 2009. We spent two nights at Mbuzi Mawe (MM) and it was our favourite place we stayed. The staff were incredibly friendly and we enjoyed practising our Swahili with them. Gaudincia even wrote us some English-Swahili translations to help us out.

The location of the lodge was great. It gave us an opportunity to visit the northern area of the Serengeti which was very beautiful. It was more treed and rolling topography than the areas to the south. The north was also a lot quieter, we seldom saw another jeep when we were out touring, but we still saw lots of animals.

The setting of the camp was wonderful. We enjoyed it much more than the larger lodge type setting, which we also experienced on our trip. The rooms at MM were great and the common areas more intimate than the larger lodge. We also found the staff at the smaller lodges/camps more friendly and easier to interact with than the larger lodges, maybe because they had fewer people to look after.

While we were at MM there was a pride of lions in the area that talked to each other at night which was amazing to hear, but we were glad to know that there were guards walking around the camp all night to keep us safe :)

If you are visiting the Serengeti I highly recommend staying at Mbuzi Mawe, you will not be disapointed.
