The Maasai Mara is the portion of the Serengeti ecosystem which lies to the north of the border with Tanzania.

The region is best known for its wildebeest and zebra migration, which tends to pass through the area July to October, but many areas offer excellent game-viewing year round.

The Masai Mara has a deserved reputation for being heavily over-touristed, but very high quality safari can still be experienced by those who plan carefully.

The best safaris is generally to be found on the private conservancies which surround the main reserve, notably Mara North, Mara Olare Orok or Mara Naboisho. The best area for river crossings is Mara Confluence.

We generally recommend spending four to six nights here, preferably split between two camps.
