is the portion of the reserve which lies to the west of the Mara river. It falls under a different council jurisdication and has separate park fees from the other side of the river.
With there only being two bridges across the river, in the extreme north and south, this area effectively functions as a separate park and is one of the very best areas for river crossings, especially mid June to mid August.
The best accommodation are the handful of mobile camps which are pitched here during the migration season, amongst which Maji ya Ngede Camp
is our favourite.
The only permanent facility is the large and commercial but extremely well located Mara Serena Lodge
All the other lodges, including very well known places such as Kichwa Tembo
, Bateleur Camp
, Olonana Camp
and Kilima Camp
, suffer the considerable disadvantage of being located in the busy area outside the north gate and are marked down accordingly.
